Who am I?
My name is Charlie Forbes and I live near the beach in Dorset on the South coast of the UK. However one of my favourite places in the world is South Africa. I am very lucky and through my father’s job I get to travel worldwide but the wildlife, countryside and people of South Africa is where my passion lies.
I decided to help the local running community after a visit to the Drakensberg Mountains and the idea of Run2Renew was born.
I have spent many years running and have completed over 120 Parkrun events world wide and it was at one of these events I met Lizzy, the Cannibals ParkRun event organiser.
The week I ran she had run out of fuel for the water pump generator and the children running had nothing to drink at the end of the 5km run. Living in the UK, I can turn on the tap and drink water anytime, this made realise we all need to help.
Many of the youngsters running didn’t even have shoes and I know this is where I can make a difference.
When I am not at my school in Dorset I love nothing more than adventures and hiking. The tougher and more extreme the better.
One of my other great passions in life is animals, especially the amazing species found in Africa.
One day I hope to work and preserve these creatures for future generations.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Run2Renew and I hope you find some old shoes or a couple of T-shirts that I can take with my on my next visit to see Lizzy and her team at the Cannibals ParkRun in South Africa.
